Summary of Main Research

• 3-D video processing - Distortion analysis - Depth map compression - 3-D video compression • Distributed video coding • High-quality video coding - RGB video coding using residual color transform (RCT) and inter-plane prediction (IPP) (RCT was adopted in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 High 4:4:4 Profile). - 4:4:4 10-bit video coding techniques, such as intra prediction, motion interpolation/prediction, quantization, entropy coding (CABAC), RD optimized mode selection, etc. • Visually lossless coding - Real-time visually lossless codec for liquid crystal display (LCD) dynamic charge capacitance (DCC) device. - Real-time visually lossless codec for display driver IC (DDI) in mobile phone. • MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 international standardization - Participating in the international standardization of MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 Fidelity Range Extension (FRExt). - Participating in the international standardization of MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 Baseline/Main Profile. - Reference S/W implementation for 4:4:4 video coding. • Joint source channel coding - Rectangular slice structure for subjective quality enhancements in error-prone environment, using region of interest scheme (Adopted in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 Baseline Profile as slice group map type 2). - RD-optimized mode selection considering error-prone environment. • Codec speed optimization - Speed optimization of MPEG-4 Core Profile decoder for DSP. - Speed optimization of MPEG-4 Simple Profile encoder for ARM9.
